Wild Haggis romp on Orkney Beaches

This handsome young man languishing on a flagstone in the kelp is celebrating his birthday this week. Haggis is a VERY wild variety of Cairn Terrier, as yet pretty untamed and more than a bit pesky, he suits his name. He likes a game of hide and seek with his Uncle Peedie (the older dog here) when he's out............and he's particularly hard to find in kelp strewn beaches. Could you find him?
He's right there in the middle........I've put a star around him.......
Haggis is great at hunkering down on a rock, stalking his very much loved Uncle Peedie, the older Cairn Terrier. Uncle Peedie is not a fan of the stalking and jumping out game. Not at all. Haggis on the other hand loves it.
He waits like a cat in attack mode to jump on Uncle Peedies head. Uncle Peedie doesn't like that much either.
In fact, if given the choice Uncle Peedie wouldn't play this game at all. Often he just turns his back and walks away.
Haggis, being a newly turned 'One year old' pup - doesn't mind. He just runs ahead and starts again. Bless him. He's quite a dedicated little pup, he just keeps trying.  Thankfully the beaches are full of kelp - or tangles as they call them up here, so Haggis has plenty places to hide. Uncle Peedie spends much of his time walking in circles to avoid attacking Haggi's. Oh well can't please everyone can you?

Happy Birthday Haggis you're a bit bigger than when you arrived - barely bigger than an envelope!
Happy Birthday Haggis.

(Who's also known as Hagar the Horrible here)

(And The Kraken)

(And several other names that mischievous puppies often have when they constantly attack and jump all over you)

And his birthday present. I thought it only fitting to buy him some reduced packets daffodil bulbs, 'Tete a Tete' - seemed only fitting given his love of being 'Head to Head' with Uncle Peedie.......

    1. Oh Sian, Uncle Peedie insisted on baking him rock cakes, with real rocks, I think perhaps the jumping on the head game is getting a bit worn.

      He had some sausages though........

    1. They do make me laugh and cry sometimes, often in pain when I've been triped up by seaweed disguised dogs!

    1. He's practising the jumping on the head game for your arrival! Peedie is still a bit pesky - I think its a breed characteristic!

  6. Happy Birthday Haggis - I see Uncle Peedie is like my old dog Oscar, he just wants his walk and no more! My cats go a walk with him and they, like Haggis, jump about wanting chased but he's just happy to ignore them and get on with it!
He's well camouflaged in amongst the kelp isn't he.

    1. He is a crazy pup Angie. Oscar sounds like a hoot. Peedie is long suffering for his art.

  7. Max sends word to get Haggis a hard rubber ball like Max himself gets every birthday and Christmas--they're everywhere. You can hardly walk around here for the rubber balls underfoot but I'm getting used to tripping on them. (It's almost like one of those exercise programs you usually have to pay for...) Your pictures of the dogs are great, so funny and so perfectly terriery!

    1. Ah as if by magic when walking today and stalking neeps, we found not one but two balls. They seem to set themselves free here on most beaches. I think perhaps there's a local rubber and tennis ball sanctuary here in Orkney.

They thank you for the photogenic compliment, despite the incompetence of their human, they do scrub up well in photos.

    2. PS on thinking about it more, has Max sent the balls over himself. Whilst I know your coast is on the opposite side, he's quite clever that Max.

    3. Well they do go missing now and then. And we do visit the ocean now and then. Watch for pawprints in a bottle!

  8. What cute pups. You really do live in a beautiful place. The scenery is gorgeous. Many folks come to my neck of the woods because I live within walking distance of THE Niagara Falls, but I could park myself on that beach any day.

    1. Nice to see you popping over GWGT - I really enjoyed your last post, such a different environment to here. Don't sit for long at this beach though, soon the smell of rotting seaweed will have you overcome. We'll show you other beaches a bit less stinky!

  11. "Hagar the Horrible", perfect name for a naughty pup! Glorious photos Fay, the kelp stalks look almost like bones strewn over some sandy graveyard for sea monsters.

    1. Aye Alistair - I hope he does too. Unfortunately his Uncle Peedie (when a wee pup) did actually end up at the vets from eating daffodil bulbs whilst standing IN a windowbox of them. Silly mutt. He was so poorly. Not that it stopped him going straight back for seconds when we got home - thankfully we stopped him. Silly mutt.
