Heart is where the home is....

The only thing to tell you here - this is not my home!
On the way back from the trip sooth last week, we came home by car and I always go past this lovely house near Dunbeath in Caithness and admire their lovely heart shaped hedge/wall art - isn't it gorgeous? This time, I managed to get a photo of it - excuse the fact the bottom is cut off - I'm very short (almost hobbit like) and even when I stood on the wall opposite (I didn't want to climb into their garden....) to get a photo I couldn't get tall enough to get it all in! Then of course, they arrived back and I got busted by the folk who live there and I scarpered quickly! Anyone living up this far north will have passed this gorgeous hedge - many a time - how beautiful is it? I hope they didn't mind that I took a photo! You see it easier on the way 'doon' than up, but I had my camera at the ready this time.

Thank you lovely folk who live here, its a truly beautiful view as you drive up or doon the road to or from the ferry. How gorgeous is this? Plants really can make your heart happy!

  2. Fantastic. I have a vision of you running hell for leather along the road. I am sure that they are used to people stopping to take pictues and if they dont like it then they should jolly well cut the hedge down.

  4. I thought at first it was something that was growing against the wall and said to myself,"how cool is that?", until I read it was a hedge!

There's many a year invested in that hedge. Wow.

  6. Anne - I think it's a climbing hedge/shrub against a wall, my words got muddled! Its either cotoneaster or most likely I think ivy but remember thinking it didn't look very clung to wall and dense - i think, really its ivy I hope I'm right but it's been there a long time. I had to go so quickly that I didn't have time to gawp properly Gorgeous! Doesn't everyone and their cars screech brakes to a halt trying (over many attempts) to get a decent pot? It's. Wonder it doesn't wear shades. Cynically if it were in Edinburgh I'm sure the council would make the lay-by/drive opposite very expensive parking?!

    Kris HObbit paparazzi! lol!

thelettuceedge - hello, not my garden but a very lovely one!

Cheri I did do a bit of running

JTs - I tend to get in the odd predicament too!

  7. If you had hobbit feet they would stay warmer and you wouldn't need wellies - happily you are not at all hobbit-like. Great hedge-work, bet they would be chuffed to have it celebrated in blog land.

  8. Janet - I do like two breakfasts! And you're right I might not fit my wellies if my feet were able to be knitted! I've found a few more pictures of it in blog land - better than mine - the folk actually stood by the garden wall (a bit too close without asking I would have said, but I'm very shy).

Why it not a postcard locally I don't know - or maybe it is? If its not it should be.

  10. What a gorgeous sight - I am certain that the homeowners were secretly tickled by your interest. They would likely be very honored to know you included it in your blog.

  11. That's pretty amazing! I winder that bits don't break off - is it wired as well as clipped? My Grandfather used to cut his hedges into the shapes of birds.

  12. Nice image. The dying art of topiary, still alive in Caithness, of all places. I do love the madness of it, brings a smile to me almost everytime. A great British eccentricity.

  15. What a laugh, I can just picture you running away with your camera. Why are we self conscious taking photos. In public I picture myself looking really dodgy as if it were a crime to be taking a photo of the William Wallace statue or the old Bridge of Dee. I always enjoy my visit to the wind and the wellies.
