The letting the chookies out of an evening seems to be working, after a fashion, its a pretty fluid arrangement and when they WANT to stick to it, they stick to it. I can live with that. The island is a riot of buttercups at the moment, you almost lose the hens when they go exploring!
Don't they look wonderfully happy - free range in the evenings or during the day depending on life and the weather of course!
Einstien keeping the girls happy and keeping a watchful eye out for any predators...............
Chookie looking up - whats that in the background trying to eat our food under the cover of buttercups? Its not really a predator, its a peedie, hungry, chancing little puppy!
Almost under cover there isn't he? Always after a good bit of hen nosh, but doesn't normally bother them too much, not when there are scraps to find! Better take him a waak doon the track fae the hoose tae the beach eh?
And a free range gardener on the beach with her free range doggie - we're not huffing from each other - we're both taking in our favourite bit of the beach......!
There was the most amazing sunset last night at 11 pm - absolutely breathtaking - so being free range ourselves we took ourselves to Yesnaby to take in the last of the sun going down.
Gorgeous the way there and just as beautiful on the way home too - what a gorgeous sight - this free range life of ours is pretty amazing! And, we are so lucky!
stunning photos, you have a fabulous eye.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of an amazing sunset.
ReplyDeleteWhat could be better than a handsome cockeral in a field of buttercups? We used to have large number of poultry in Orkney. We started with 3 hens and a cockeral and the numbers grew from there (as they do). Now we're back to three hens, plenty of eggs but it's not the same. I used to think I would write a book called " The Definitive Guide to Group Dynamics in Poultry" ......
ReplyDeleteYour sunset is accompanied by a drumroll of thunder, as I read. Christine in Alaska is looking for some colourful wellies, so if yours go walkabout ...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! Loving the free range chickens (and the sunset!) xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic sunset. I once went to a restauarant on a beach where they made you stand up to salute the sunset - we still do this in our house to this day. Your hen photos are lovely. xxxx

ReplyDeleteThose Hens & Einstein seem to be having a whale of a time out there on the meadow. We used to have sunsets like those in northern Sweden - absolutely spectacular and beautiful. Always a treat and a pleasure to behold. Hope you have a good summer.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pics, all of them - but especially #1. I could see that one blown up and hanging on a wall.
ReplyDeleteWow! Those sunset pics are amazing. Love all your photos. I love chickens but after losing 2 lots, 1 to fox and 1 to mink, we have given up on that one.
