The swans are beginning to fill up the lochs again in Orkney, just like the year before and the years before that. Their return announces the shortness of the days and the bitter impatient song of the winter winds. Hats are donned, boots slipped on, scarves guard our faces. Walking each day is ever more important now that the swans have returned and the daylight is going so very quickly. Its nice to see them again, I took this photo last year, in mid November again when the light went quickly looking over stenness loch. The scene hasn't changed much, almost one year later, I wonder how long the views have been like this and how long they will remain so peaceful, forever I hope.
