Doing a little wellie dance

These are going to come in a bit more than handy quite soon. Let me introduce one of my pairs of work wellies and fetching waterproof trousers. The wellies are called Caltha.

I've been doing a little dance tonight. Living in my wonderful island location, I have pretty much resigned myself to not being able to 'work' (e.g. real gardeny type work). Its one of the reasons I was motivated to go for another post grad course to keep me busy. I'm here for my children essentially )great schools, no crime and a fanastic way of life on a shoestring) - well given the climate and the challege you wouldn't exactly move here for the gardening career prospects would you?

Anyway, excuse my small indulgence and I'm dancing in my seat with news. Whilst I've lived here I've pretty much given up trying to be employed in my field, there just isn't the work here -  so I've dealt with this by very happily helping more than a few folk out on occassion with thier gardens here - big/small/renovations and as swapping for things like polytunnels. However, I've recently been recommended (and very chuffed I was) for a bit of contact work up here. I met the folk and low and behold the little job that was needed has now turned into quite a nice little project with the potential for more work throughout the year. For the first time in my life (probably) for this type of work I've quoted 'professional rates' not ummed and ahhed and they are very happy. Ok its a fair bit of planning, design and researching sourcing materials (and getting them here!) I'm happy as we've built on their original idea and chatted developed it and they'd like me to go ahead.*yippee*

A real proper contract, here - with the potential for recommendation if I do a nice job and also perhaps more work. What a privilege to be allowed to help some people develop a garden space for their family I hope they'll enjoy it as much as I will being able to give them even this small bit of a hand! My wellies and I will get a bit of air and exercise inbetween finishing this thesis.

I'm a happy puppy and wanted to thank you for the lovely comments and support shown on here which had allowed me to keep following my dreams of covering the world in flowers (or flowering woodland and hedging in this case) whilst battling with the wind.

Thank you all!

And the best bit, apart from the digging/planitng/muddiness and general plant garden heaven. Between a bit of this a nd a bit of plant selling - I might even manage to sustain us through flowers and mud - I'm deeply chuffed and so are my wellies!

LOL) I've been reading your blog for months, more of a lurker I'm afraid, but I must chime in today with the congratulations on this gardening prospect. You must be beside yourself with excitement and anticipation. Hope it all works out well. :-D

Meanwhile I'll keep looking in. I've become addicted to beachwalking with you and hoping for fish boxes. LOL
