The lang journey 'sooth'

Here we are again, on a boat (we are delivering this bloglet from the choppy sea waters in the middle of the pentland firth). However, the midst of winter, not the best time of year for boat travel, but until they invent concessions for peedies on planes, we go 'sooth' by boat, and by boat I mean ferry, of course. It's that time of year again when we flee the stripey island homestead and head 'sooth' for the holidays. The children fly, entirely sensible if you ask me, but they are off to dads, so it's a better way for them to go. The chooks are staying home, delighted to have 'aunty jenny' looking after them again and have a mountain of food stored in various byre locations. As these pesky feathered fiends prefer to stand out in the full bracing Orkney air (even during hurricanes, it would appear.....) then food galore in the freshly straw bedded byre will surely tempt them in? The verdicts out on that one. Well cars packed, as you can see, duvet, cushions, pressies, bags, jackets, grub (Orkney hot smoked salmon tucked in for aunty C) and can you see there even a peedie pair of skis, oh and a spade just in case.......or should that be a spade and if the snows really bad, some peedie skis instead of the spade? Who knows...........I've 6 hours of a drive to get to Mr F, and onwards again further to start Xmas holidays....... I'm nearly organised, just my 'dear heart' Xmas email/letter to write as I don't send Xmas cards. I'd like to think that this is because I'm truly green and Eco friendly, but to be honest, im just lazy, full of intentions of hand made cards, which generally do not materialise, I entirely blame the lazy home made Xmas card fairies, slackers they are! Have a good one yourselves, once my dear heart Santa/xmas letters written I'll pop you a copy, just to give you a giggle. Xmas is also funny time of year for us, normally involves children away to their pesky alternative brood/family en France (and much fun will be had), leaving us to enjoy time without them, but time with far flung family doon sooth. Which is very nice, especially as aunty c is a trained chef. This year we are (mr F and me) heading to snowy lands of France, he's determined to orchestrate my future death by snow. I've been assured however, as well as flinging myself, barely at my own will, down slidy snowy mountains on two polished planks of wood, there will be tasty food. That certainly got my attention. Food, ok I can do sliding inelegantly down hills for food. For the now, I'll say cheery bye, the boats guy choppy and I'm nae a great sailor, yours with a bonnie green tinge......thankfully I can see the lights of Scotland in the distance, nearly there...... (who in their right mind lives on an island but doesn't like boats? Oh yup that would be me)

  12. Oh I might be a bit late you may well be on your long journey now. Have a great Christmas. I love the idea of a snowy Christmas in France instead it'll probably be a wet one in Wales!!! Go easy on the skis but not so easy on the food. Best wishes.

  13. A wet holiday for me in Wales too! Just an incy wincy bit jealous of snowy Alps visits but I know that you will find lots of lovely food to blog about. Who knows you may love skiing and then you can descend on me in my new home next Christmas to partake of more sliding on bits of wood, I prefer the little toboggans to skis though.

  14. I share your feelings about Christmas cards!
Good luck on the snow! Several falls and a broken coccyx later and I've handed skiing over to the rest of the family, but I do enjoy the mix of sun and snow. Not something Scotland normally has in abundance.
